Dr. Robert Porter, a physician at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, successfully cured an 88-year-old man suffering from Clostridium difficile by utilizing the ‘good’ bacteria in his daughter’s fecal matter.

According to Daily Mail, Clostridium difficile is a potentially life-threatening disease characterized by diarrhea, high fever and painful cramps. The disease is typically prevalent in the elderly.

The procedure, which involves feeding fecal matter mixed with a saline solution through a small tube that feeds into the nose and leads into the small bowel, had been tested in the Netherlands back in 2011.

The test ultimately showed that a whopping 94% of patients suffering from C. difficile were completely cured, compared to only 31% who were treated with traditional antibiotics.

In light of the test results, the procedure is becoming increasingly popular with physicians throughout the world.

(iWIDK By Dominick Cattarina) – Big news for scientists as the “God particle,” is determined to have been discovered.

Scientist at CERN, in Geneva, announced on Thursday that they officially believe they have now found the once theoretical Higgs boson particle.

The Washington Post has reported that the news comes after several months of going through and testing data after their initial announcement this past July. “To me it is clear that we are dealing with a Higgs boson, though we still have a long way to go to know what kind of Higgs boson it is,” said Joe Incandela, a physicist who heads one of the two main teams at CERN.

The Higgs boson particle was first theorized in 1964 by British physicist Peter Higgs to explain how mass is created. The discovery of the Higgs boson also gives more credible weight to the Big Bang theory and solidifies the theory of Standard Model of particle physics, which before its discovery was the only particle part of the Standard Model to not have been observed.

“The Higgs field is everywhere around us, and all particles are moving in the presence of this field,” said William Trischuk, a professor of physics at the University of Toronto. “All these particles interact more or less strongly with it, and they are either slowed down or not slowed down so much and that’s what gives them mass.”

A study from the University of Munster in Germany found evidence that sexual activity gives better relief to those suffering from migraines and cluster headaches than painkillers.

According to The Telegraph, the study reported that more than half of the participants showed symptom relief after having sex and one in five of those participants were completely relieved.

The basis of the research lies on sex’s release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers.

Thanks to the University’s research “I have a headache” can join the long list of cheesy pick-up lines.

Researchers have said that a Mississippi baby girl has been cured of HIV.

ABC News has reported that doctors are confirming that after a year of being taken off of HIV medication the baby girl is testing negative for the HIV virus. This is the second time in history that a person has been cured of HIV.

The baby was born with HIV and within less than 30 hours was administered anti-HIV drugs. The doctors took a much more aggressive approach than usual and bombarded the baby with a series of intense drugs. The baby was kept on the medication for up to 15-months, after which the doctors lost touch with the baby and her mother. It was not until 23-months later that the baby came back for a check-up. Since then, the mother had taken the baby off the HIV medication, something doctors usually never recommend. However, when testing the baby girl the doctors were surprised to see that her tests came up negative.

“This is a proof of concept that HIV can be potentially curable in infants,” said Dr Deborah Persaud, a virologist at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, who presented the findings at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Atlanta.

The news is great and will most likely take HIV and AIDS research in a different direction.

The only other documented case of an HIV cure to date remains that of Timothy Brown, the so-called “Berlin patient.”

Researchers from South Africa, Norway, Germany and The UK  recently discovered remnants of a continent that was swallowed by the Indian Ocean millions of years ago.

According to BBC News, Professor Trond Torsvik, from the University of Oslo, claimed that the team found ziricons extracted from beach sands found off of the coast of Madagascar; minerals that are typically found in continental crust.

The scientists believe that the beach sands were dragged up to the earth’s surface during a subterranean volcanic eruption that occurred several million years ago.

The team claimed that the lost continent was broken up and distributed throughout the Indian Ocean, and have named the continent “Mauritia.”

London scientists are working to create a new pill that can sober-up boozers in seconds. 

According to Zee News, so far they’ve created a concoction containing two enzymes that drastically decrease blood alcohol levels.

They are experimenting on mice by getting them drunk and then injecting them with the enzymes to see if they “sober-up.”

The concoction is not ready to be tested on humans, sorry people.

(iWIDK By Alex Dorian) – Pretty soon, government officials are going to be scrounging the streets for cigarette butts and gum.

Heather Dewey-Hagborg, an information artist from New York City, has spent over a year creating 3D replicas of people’s faces by picking up discarded cigarette butts and gum.

According to The Blaze, Dewey-Hagborg has worked with face and speech recognition algorithms in the past and pursued the project to explore the possibility of genetic surveillance.

She admits that her renditions are not 100% accurate, but that her assumptions as to what a person looks like based upon their DNA aren’t completely off-base.

In the end, the software she used for her models may pose as a threat to those who believe their privacy is already being threatened.

30-year-old Kelly Hughes, from Baconsfield, UK, got a wake up call when a state-of-the-art UV scanner displayed the damage she had accumulated over 14 years from using tanning beds.

According to Daily Mail, the naive young woman had started tanning at the age of 16 to avoid “looking pale” during the holiday season.

The image itself revealed the invisible damage; pockmarks, dark pigmentation and premature wrinkles.

So the choice is yours: look a little pale, or increase your risk for skin cancer.

London scientists are helping a man with cancer grow a new nose… on his ARM. 

They’re using the bone marrow cells to help grow it, and will then sew it onto his face.

The mold of the man’s old nose was taken, and used to create the shape of his soon-to-be new nose out of glass.

According to Mirror, a balloon will be placed in the man’s arm underneath the skin to stretch it to make room for the future nose.

At first, the nose will not having working nostrils since it will be covered with skin, but doctors will later open them for, you know, smelling purposes.

Further comments on the procedure fail to exist right now, so we will just have to wait and see how things turn out.

The Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University took a peek into the bedrooms of couples, both straight and gay, to find that using a condom is just as pleasurable as not. 

According to U.S. News, There are no significant differences in men’s ability to get an erection with or without a rubber.

Dr. Jill Rabin, chief of ambulatory care, obstetrics and gynecology, at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, N.Y. found the myth that men don’t like condoms is a complete bust, most men do.

So stop listening to rumors and start listening to doctors.

George Church, a 58-year-old Harvard Medical School geneticist, is looking for a female surrogate to carry a Neanderthal clone.

Although the process looks viable on paper, “there are a host of unanswered questions” in regards to what might go awry during the procedure, redorbit reported.

The procedure itself would involve Church and his assistants breaking down a Neanderthal genome into a thousand pieces, synthesizing them, and then introduce them into a human stem cell.

Apparently, the actual birth may have to occur under a c-section, as the head of a Neanderthal was much larger and bulbous then a human’s.

This guy should watch Jurassic Park and reassess the potential disaster associated with bringing back a prehistoric entity.

(iWIDK by Aaron Lanton) - One professor had an unexpected problem come up during a study about pornography. 

At  Université de Montréal, Professor Simon Louis Lajeunesse started a study to examine the effects of pornography on men, but he ran into one huge roadblock: he couldn’t find one subject who had never viewed some form of pornography.

According to Inquistir, 90 percent of the pornography came from the internet, and that men in relationships watch porn an average of 1.7 times a week for up to 20 minutes.

Lajeunesse concluded that pornography did not change men’s perception of women or their relationship.

His thesis further details that men enjoy the fantasy that pornography provides, but do not want their partners to look like porn stars.

Infant-like Brooke Greenburg, 20, was born with a mysterious condition that has her looking and thinking like toddler for the rest of her life. 

According to the Daily Mail, Brooke had been examined by the best doctors in the country, but they still have no clue what she has, they labeled it ‘Syndrome X.’

Brooke has to be fed through a tube inserted into her stomach, she requires 24-hour care from her parents.

Doctors are viewing Brooke’s mystery as a stepping stone to finding out how to delay aging for, well, everyone.
