(WIDK By Brittany Hahn) – This might be the smartest cat out there.

A Hurricane Sandy survivor is thrilled to have her cat back after he was displaced by the storm. The feline named Porsche traveled eight miles and found his own way home.

Survivor Uranie Roberts was rescued by a boat during the storm, along with the cat of course, and was taken to Point Pleasant to stay with other family members.

According to News12, Porsche ran away from Point Pleasant, maybe because it was new and unusual territory for him.

Roberts and her family thought they’d never see the cat again, until six months later when they returned to their original home on Chadwick Island and heard a meow.

The cat is now home and happy.

Dr. Robert Porter, a physician at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, successfully cured an 88-year-old man suffering from Clostridium difficile by utilizing the ‘good’ bacteria in his daughter’s fecal matter.

According to Daily Mail, Clostridium difficile is a potentially life-threatening disease characterized by diarrhea, high fever and painful cramps. The disease is typically prevalent in the elderly.

The procedure, which involves feeding fecal matter mixed with a saline solution through a small tube that feeds into the nose and leads into the small bowel, had been tested in the Netherlands back in 2011.

The test ultimately showed that a whopping 94% of patients suffering from C. difficile were completely cured, compared to only 31% who were treated with traditional antibiotics.

In light of the test results, the procedure is becoming increasingly popular with physicians throughout the world.

Author from Utah, Jen Larson, 38, wrote a book after losing 180 pounds about how being skinny isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. 

It confused her, for some reason, that once she became skinny her life wasn’t magically perfect; her book is titled: “Stranger Here: How Weight-Loss Surgery Transformed My Body and Messed with My Head.”

Larson claims that her doctor, who recommended the bariatric surgery she got, made ‘skinny’ seem like a dream, reports Daily Mail.

Larson believed that the extra weight was the reason she was feeling depressed, but once she lost it all, she was left even more confused.

(iWIDK By Brittany Hahn) - What seems impossible can be conquered with a little help from your best friend. 

Dog from China, Dian Dian, learned to walk like a human after being born without his front legs. 

Dian Dian’s owner, Cen Lan, said that the pup used to squirm around the floor like a seal, pushing himself with his hind legs in attempt to move, reports Daily Mail.

Using kaynine kryptonite: food, Lan eventually trained Dian Dian to walk one foot in front of the other, like a human.

Now the two are inseparable; Dian Dian can be spotted taking little ‘walkies’ while sporting matching outfits with his trusty owner.

Talk about best friends forever.

(iWIDK By Allie Beauregard) – A very lucky tourist brought home an unusual souvenir.

Lee Charie, 32, has returned home to England with part of his head in hand after spending the past year recovering on Thailand’s  Koh Tao Island where his vacation turned into a nightmare when he fell from his 22-foot hotel balcony – landing on his head and requiring surgeons to remove 1/4 of his skull.

Charie, who could barely remember the accident, told MSN reporters he was completely unaware his skull had been removed – to relieve pressure on his brain – until 2 weeks following the tumble.

Walking, talking, and functioning again, Charie is taking the piece of his skull that was taken out in hopes that doctors back in England can replicate a mold to replace it.

For now, a large – very noticeable - dip lays in his head where the chunk of bone is missing.

Although his memory suffered during his rehabilitation and his stay was greatly extended, Charie astonishingly escaped death and will hopefully one day return to his spot as an extra on the TV Series The Only Way is Essex.

(iWIDK By Rebecca Arden) – She went to Wal-Mart for baby supplies and left with her baby. 

Nathalie Saona, 28, was picking up some last minute supplies for her unborn child, due March 17th, when she suddenly went into labor, and delivered in the local Wal-Mart. 

Saona was in the Wal-Mart with her sister, when she started feeling strong pains, making her unable to walk.

Record Online reports that customers and employees came over, moved Saona to a bench in the pharmacy department and began trying to help her, bringing blankets and pillows and clearing the area.

Saona claims there was a man named Richard who delivered the child while the 911 dispatcher walked them through the process.

Saona gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Kourtney at 6 pounds 6 ounces and 18.5 inches long.

Both mother and daughter were rushed to the hospital and are doing fine.

A Texas man diagnosed with terminal brain cancer ran and won a marathon while pushing his daughter in a stroller.

Iram Leon, 32, suffers from an aggressive brain cancer that doctors say will kill him in about eight years.

Leon has devoted the time he has left to raising his daughter, 6-year old Kiana, and making sure she has lasting memories of him.

He recently ran and won a marathon in Beaumont, Texas while pushing his daughter in a stroller.

According to Yahoo!, Leon advises others to not wait until a tragic diagnosis to enjoy life.

On his blog, Picking Up a Hitchhiker, he writes “But here sore, reflecting and grateful, I still can’t believe that I won a marathon.”

(iWIDK By Remus Lee) - A six-year-old boy has never felt better after losing half his brain.

Doctors in Cleveland Clinic’s Epilepsy Center removed half of Sam Parrent’s frontal lobe in 2011 after the child began having up to one hundred seizures in a day.

Removing part of the brain is considered a last resort operation by neurologists to be taken when medication fails to work.

Brain removal is undertaken primarily with very young patients, whose growing brains can rewire itself around the affected areas.

According to ABC News, Sam is currently as healthy as any other kindergarten student his age, and has been seizure free since the operation.

(iWIDK By Alex Dorian) – A best friend and human chain saved a boy’s life.

12-year-old Josh McQuoid wasn’t expecting to get pulled into the ocean’s current at Napier’s Marine Parade beach in New Zealand, nor to have a chain of twelve people pulling him to safety.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, McQuoid’s 13-year-old friend, Hikairo Ratapu, shouted for help, which prompted a German tourist to respond to the chaos.

Three policemen and eight civilians later, a human chain managed to pull the struggling McQuoid out of the powerful undercurrent.

Josh was released from a local area hospital after making a full recovery.

As imagined, gratitude doesn’t begin to describe the emotions Josh’s parents feel towards those who helped their son.

(iWIDK by Aaron Lanton) - A woman wrote an inspirational memoir after receiving a devastating medical diagnosis. 

Susan Spencer-Wendel, an award-winning criminal courts reporter for The Palm Beach Post, wrote a memoir titled Until I Say Goodbye on her iPhone using only her right thumb after being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in the summer of 2011.

According to Daily Mail, Wendel first began to notice problems in 2009, but was not officially diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease until 2011 at the age of 44.

Instead of giving into depression, Wendel decided to make the best of her situation by writing Until I Say Goodbye, which publisher Harper Collins has called, “a powerfully emotional, inspirational and irrepressibly joyous look at the things that matter most.”

Universal Pictures has offered a seven-figure deal for film rights to the memoir.

Wendel will leave behind a husband, a son, and a daughter.

(iWIDK By Remus Lee) - A new mother is on cloud nine after giving birth at 38,000 feet in the air.

17-year-old Fatoumatta Kaba, the wife of Gambian diplomat Abubakary Jawara, gave birth to a healthy baby boy while flying from South Africa to  New York City.

According to the NY Daily News, Ms. Kaba gave birth aboard the flight with the assistance of two doctors, Drs. Julie Williamson and Steve Paridon, who were on board at the time.

Despite suggestions that the plane be diverted, mother and child landed safely and on schedule at John F. Kennedy International Airport early Saturday morning.

Ms. Kaba has stated that once she recovers, she will follow her diplomat husband to whatever posting he is assigned to.

(iWIDK by Aaron Lanton) - One man’s goodwill led to an extraordinary family reunion. 

In Las Vegas, Nevada, local realtor Jim Snyder helped reunite Jimmy Francis, who was homeless, with his daughter by utilizing social media. 

According to ABC 13 Las Vegas, Synder brought Francis home with him after he saw Francis shaking vigorously from the cold outside a sandwich shop.

Synder’s wife sent a message to a woman they thought might be Francis’ daughter, and were shocked to get a response back.

Both sides installed Skype, which allowed Francis and his daughter to see each other for the first time in 24 years.

The Francis family plans to reunite in the near future.

(iWIDK By Lauren Keough) - A deaf child heard her mom’s voice for the first time. 

Jayde Scholl was born deaf in China and ended up in an orphanage after she was abandoned in a public square at 8 months old.

She had never had access to hearing devices of any kind until she was adopted by the Tulsa family, a family uniquely equipped to help her learn how to hear.

According to Opposing Views, over the next year or so, the Scholl family worked on getting Jayde the necessary implant that would allow her to hear properly. All of their effort and money spent ultimately led to this: the moment she heard her mother’s voice for the first time.

Next month she will get a new implant, which, if all goes according to plan, will be smaller and less noticeable.
