(iWIDK By Remus Lee) - An Oklahoma woman may get the maximum sentence for her role in the death of her husband.

21-year-old Amber Hilberling was found guilty of second-degree murder in pushing her Air Force veteran husband, Joshua, out a 25th floor apartment window during an argument.

According to CBS News, the jury could not find enough evidence that Hilberling pushed her husband out the window in self-defense and has therefore returned a guilty verdict.

The jury has recommended the maximum sentence of twenty-five years in prison.

(iWIDK By Allie Beauregard) – A couple is torn between the law and what they felt was humane.

In 2010, Jeff and Jennifer Counseller of Connersville, IN took in a baby white-tailed deer they found on their front porch, covered in deep  wounds filled with maggots and on the verge of death.   This month they were criminally charged for keeping the animal in their custody even though they claim they were just nursing it back to health. 

The couple insisted that, after giving the fawn immediate care, they attempted to put it in the hands of local petting zoos and and farms, but were turned down time and again.

The Department of Natural Resources is now charging the Counsellers with illegal custody, which could result in $500 in fines and up to two months in jail.

Jeff told local ABC  reporters, in his defense, that had they not extended their humanitarian efforts it “would have been a death sentence” for the young animal.

Thousands have signed petitions and joined Facebook pages claiming the couple should be alleviated of their charges and that they acted in the animal’s best interest.

As of Tuesday, the Counsellers are still determined to fight the charges despite the fact that that their lawyer fees will outweigh the amount of fines they are actually facing.

(iWIDK By Remus Lee) - Two teens are found guilty of assaulting a 78-year-old man.

The two 19-year-old assailants were convicted of a March 12 assault on the man after he tried to alert them that they did not turn on their car lights.

The teens had stopped the car and beat the man as he was waiting for the bus, before driving off.

The teens claimed that they had not left their house that evening, but police were quickly able to find the car with the engine still warm, according to the Telegraph.

The victim of the attack was left with disfiguring injuries and cried when the guilty verdict was announced.

One teen remains in custody while the other was released on bail.

(iWIDK By Rebecca Arden) – A man believed his First Amendment rights were violated, and now he’s taking action. 

Joseph Corlett, a former student at Oakland University by Detroit, has filed a large lawsuit against the school, claiming they violated his First Amendment Rights.

The 57-year-old was enrolled in an advanced critical writing class, in which his assignment was a “diary-like composition,” reports CBS Detroit.

Corlett claims he was just following the assignment and being honest, but was suspended after writing entries about a number of different professors at the university, including his critical writing instructor.

He titled his entries, “Hot For Teacher” and compared one professor to Ginger, the knockout from the famous TV series Gilligan’s Island.

He also wrote about his “delicious little secret” with another professor when she had a slight wardrobe malfunction involving her skirt and showing undergarments and he notified her of it.

University officials suspended him for three semesters, claiming Corlett violated a school policy against intimidation of other people on campus. They also told him he would be arrested for criminal trespassing if he stepped foot on campus during those three semesters.

Corlett was informed he would be unable to enroll again as a student until proving he had undergone sensitivity therapy.

(iWIDK By Lauren Keough) - A couple’s scam was revealed. 

Michael Condor, 35, and Carrol Lee Leazer, 39, were arrested Monday on charges of aggravated assault because the couple let one of their co-workers at a Dollar Tree store bite into one of the doughnuts.

According to ibtimes, X-rays revealed that Michael Condor, 35, and Carole Lee Leazer-Hardman, 39, had each swallowed several razor blades after tampering with the donuts. The couple had planned to use the resulting injuries to sue a local Smith’s Food and Drug store in the attempted scam.

The two were charged on suspicion of aggravated assault, filing a false police report, and ruining a perfectly good pastry.

(iWIDK By Omar Guzman) – An 11-hour trial session is set to begin.

The controversial trial of two teens charged with rape in Steubenville, OH has been set to continue.

Trent Mays, 17, and Ma’lik Richmond, 16, stand accused of raping a 16-year old girl at a party.

The case has received national attention due to coverage by bloggers and comments by Anonymous, the hacker collective.

Prosecutors maintain that both ex-high school footballers penetrated the victim vaginally with their fingers while she was incapacitated, which is considered rape according to Ohio law.

Rather than hinging out consent, the case will be largely decided on whether Mays and Richmond knew that the 16-year old girl was too drunk to consent.

Several witnesses have already taken the stand.

Some claim that the victim was indeed in a drunken stupor, while others claim that they did not see her drink at all.

According to CNN, the case is being expedited to accommodate the schedule of visiting judge Thomas Lipps.

Lipps, who will be deciding the case without a jury, is expected to render a verdict on Sunday.

(iWIDK By Remus Lee) - After numerous false starts, a schizophrenic man is finally put on trial for the gruesome murder he performed in 2008. 

David Tarloff is accused of butchering Dr. Kathryn Faughey in 2008 during an attempt to rob the offices of his psychiatrist, Dr. Kent Shinbach.

Prosecutors argue that Tarloff was fully aware that murdering Faughey was illegal, while the defense claims that Tarloff thought his actions were sanctioned by God, the NY Daily News reports.

A conviction in this case hinges on whether the jury thinks Tarloff was fully responsible for his actions.

If convicted, Tarloff will receive life in prison without the possibility of parole, but if his defense is successful, he might be committed to psychiatric care with eligibility of release.

(iWIDK By Alex Dorian) – 7 men and 5 women will determine the fate of a woman accused of a particularly heinous crime.

Lindsey Lowe, a 26-year-old woman from Hendersonville, TN, was brought to trial in Gallatin this morning to answer to two counts of felony murder, two counts of premeditated murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse after she smothered her newborn twins to death.

According to News Channel 5, the incident occurred September of 2011 after Lowe gave birth in the bathroom of her parents’ home and attempted to muffle the cries of her newborn twins so that her parents wouldn’t hear the commotion.

Apparently, the pregnancy was the result of an affair with a man from Kentucky, which prompted Lowe to hide the pregnancy from her parents and her then fiancé.

Prosecutors claim they will not seek the death penalty.

(iWIDK by Aaron Lanton) - An unfortunate misinterpretation led to these parents temporarily losing custody of their children.

In Arizona, Anthony and Lisa Demaree are suing the city of Peoria, the State Attorney General’s office, and Walmart after being falsely accused of taking pornographic pictures of their three young daughters, which had several ramifications including being registered as sex offenders, $75,00 in legal fees, and their daughters being taken away by Arizona Child Protective Services for over a month. 

According to Daily Mail, a Walmart employee contacted police while developing Demaree family photos that were thought to potentially be child pornography.

The pictures are of the three girls, naked during bath time horsing around with each other and their parents.

Some cases are still pending but a federal judge has ruled that employees in Arizona may not be held liable for reporting suspected child pornography.

Bouchra Bagour, 35, is on trial in France for dressing her 3-year-old son in a T-shirt saying, “I am a bomb” and “Born on September 11.”

Bagour admits that dressing her son in the T-shirt was a bad idea, but says she never intended to cause such a stir.

According to News.com.au, she said she simply wanted people to know that her son was born on September 11th.

Both Bagour, and her brother who bought the toddler the T-shirt, face a fine as high as 4,500 euros each for defending terrorism.

(iWIDK By Omar Guzman) – A man was awarded one of the largest prisoner civil rights settlements in U.S. history.

A New Mexico man has been awarded a multi-million dollar settlement for being mistreated while incarcerated.

Stephen Slevin, 59, recently reached a settlement with Dona Ana County, NM that will grant him $15.5 million.

Slevin was held at the Dona Ana County Jail from 2005 to 2007, spending most of the time in solitary confinement.

According to Slevin’s lawyer, Matt Coyte, the man was initially pulled over for driving while intoxicated and placed into custody.

Officers thought that Slevin was driving a stolen vehicle, but he was actually borrowing it from a friend.

He would later be placed in a padded cell for three days because jail staff believed him to be depressed.

Finally, Slevin was placed in solitary confinement where he would spend the next two years.

He was never allowed to see a judge.

NBC is reporting that Slevin, who has lung cancer, will be receiving an initial payment of $6 million by the end of the week.

Rishi Bajaj, 33, co-manager of the $620 million hedge fund Altai Capital, is suing 24-year-old Miss New Mexico Teen USA 2007 Liz Kranz, claiming she conned him out of $96,000. 

According to the New York Post, while the two were dating they vacationed around the world together and even lived together in L.A. for a short period of time.

Throughout their relationship, Bajaj would regularly give Kranz his American Express credit card, allowing her to purchase anything from a dress for a wedding they attended to a BMW with a $17,000 down payment.

Now he is claiming that she racked up over $58,000 on his credit card after they had already broken up.

Bajaj wants the courts to force Kranz to pay at least $40,000 of the credit card charges as well as a $20,000 loan and the down payment required for the BMW.

He also wants to impose a late fee of almost $2,000.

Kranz is currently dating mixed-martial-arts fighter Max McGarr.

(iWIDK By Lauren Keough) - A women’s fake baby bump was exposed.

A Chinese woman has reportedly complained to a manufacturer after her baby bump was exposed as a fake.

According Daily Mail, the woman, named by local media as Zhang, told the Liyuan Industrial and Commercial Bureau that the belt tying the bump to her waist had come loose, leaving her “found out and mocked.”

She is then said to have filed a complaint to a Chinese commercial bureau, claiming she paid 300 yuan for the fake bump, saying that it was billed as “very realistic.”

A report in Want China Times says fake pregnancy bellies have become a hot online shopping item in the country.
