(WIDK By Brittany Hahn) - The puppy is doing well, but not so much the former owner. 

New Jersey woman 29-year-old Kisha Curtis has been charged with throwing her starved pit bull puppy down a garbage chute and leaving him to die. 

Curtis denies ever abusing the dog, she claims that she left the puppy in a hallway before someone else found him at the bottom of a trash chute nearly dead.

According to Daily Mail, the poor puppy was found at the bottom of the chute back in 2011 on St. Patrick’s day, and Curtis is now facing trial.

Luckily for the puppy, who is now named Patrick, he went from a skinny 19 lbs to a healthy 50 lbs now that he has a new home.

Members of an international crime syndicate forced dogs to swallow packs of cocaine before slicing them open after crossing borders.

Authorities have arrested over 70 people across northern Italy after discovering that they tried to smuggle cocaine using dogs.

Members of the drug trafficking ring are said to have used large dog breeds, like Great Danes, in order to maximize the quantity of drugs they could smuggle.

After successfully transporting the drugs, the dogs would be sliced open to retrieve large packages of cocaine.

The Daily Mail reports that the criminals could face charges of criminal association, drug trafficking, and illegal weapon possession.

Kyle Voissem, a former college gymnast, has been found guilty of animal cruelty after pouring scalding water on his dog for urinating in his apartment.

Former University of Illinois at Chicago student Kyle Voissem has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation following his abuse of his pet dog.

Voissem was boiling water to cook macaroni and cheese when he discovered that his dog had urinated in his apartment.

He then proceeded to pour the boiling water over the dog’s head and torso, causing severe second- and third-degree burns.

Voissem, who is originally from Wisconsin but was attending UIC on a gymnastic scholarship, is no longer listed on the gymnastic team’s roster.

NBC Chicago is reporting that he will be due back in court on May 20th.

(iWIDK By Lauren Keough) - A “gay dog” is going to be killed. 

A dog in Tennessee may be euthanized Thursday because its owner believes he is “gay.”

According toThe Examiner, the dog was seen “hunched over” another male dog, therefore, in this owner’s mind, the dog must be gay.

The former owner apparently does not know that “hunched over,” or a humping behavior is typically a sign of dominance in dogs, rather than something to signify a dog’s sexual orientation.

The dog is sentenced to die at 1 PM Thursday.

(iWIDK By Allie Beauregard) – Those who witnessed the incident - and video – question authorities’ actions towards two animals. 

Friday afternoon outside Chester High School in PA a brawl between two dogs resulted in an open fire by police officers called onto the scene.

The incident ignited when one dog jumped in the back of a truck where another dog was kept – and the fight was on.

The two officers called to the scene reacted to the aggression using a pistol and a shotgun, shocking all those around and especially the onlooker who caught it all on their camera phone.

Aside from being horrified that the officers would resort to shooting the animals on school property, Chester residents were equally as concerned about how unsafe the situation was for civilians.

Resident Tehran Freeman told reporters, later quoted by The Inquisitr, “it wasn’t secure at all, I know bullets can ricochet and anything else — you’re trying to shoot two animals in the back of a metal vehicle, that bullet can go anywhere.”

However, a close viewing of the video shows the officers were just as upset about their decision, as was clear in their reactions.

At the time of the incident it was unclear who either dog belonged to, and no one claimed them soon after the shooting either.

(iWIDK by Aaron Lanton) - The owners of a neglected Cocker Spaniel are about to be held responsible for their actions.

In Wall Township, New Jersey, Keith Morgan and his wife, Shauna, are facing charges of animal cruelty and filing a false report after leaving Samurai, their Cocker Spaniel, in a garbage bag on the side of the road.

According to The Bronx News 12, Samurai had severely matted fur and was covered in waste when officials at the Associated Humane Society found him.

The dog is currently on a feeding tube and being slowly cleaned up.

Police were able to locate Morgan and his wife because Samurai was registered to someone in their home.

If Samurai passes away, the couple will face additional charges.

Doctors in New Orleans are preparing to receive Fabio, a Maltese dog from Florida, for replacing his missing back legs with prosthetic legs.

According to the New York Daily News, Fabio’s previous owner hacked off his back legs to prevent him from escaping his backyard.

Fabio is currently in the care of Florida Poodle Rescue, where he is recovering from his ordeal.

The head of the team making Fabio’s prosthetic legs is Dr. Allison Barca, who previously worked on a prosthetic limb for a Shetland pony after Hurricane Katrina.

Nearly three thousand dead pigs were found in a Shanghai river, sparking fears of water contamination among the local populace.

Shanghai authorities have stated that they are monitoring water pollution levels closely as workers continue to remove pig carcasses from the water.

The dead pig fiasco has roiled Chinese social media as bloggers criticize the government’s slow reaction to the situation, according to Reuters.

Dead pig dumps have been increasing in frequency after a government crackdown on the sale of diseased pig parts.

Scout’s Honor, a Houston-based, volunteer animal rescue organization, was shocked when authorities brought in a Black Labrador covered in burn marks.

According to The Eagle, the dog was apparently doused with gasoline by unidentified Houston gang members and lit on fire.

However, the injured canine was brought to Texas A&M hospital, where he made a full recovery.

Donations from across the states and even Hong Kong and Germany helped to pay for his treatment.

Scout’s Honor affectionately named the dog Pier, after 16th century Dutch farmer Grutte Pier, an amiable man whose family was burned alive inside his farmhouse.

Hillsboro, Oregon, police arrested 22-year-old George Mason, Jr. after witnesses saw him beating a same-sex couple with a metal wrench before driving away.

According to KPTV, Mason attacked the couple while shouting homophobic slurs after seeing the couple’s dog, a bright pink poodle named Beauty.

Due to the information given by multiple witnesses, police were able to quickly identify and bring Mason into custody.

None of the victims of the assault were severely injured.

Tish Coleman, a 31-year-old woman from Chicago, IL, was charged with cruelty to animals and misdemeanor domestic battery following a dispute with her 26-year-old cousin.

According to DNA Info, a witness saw Coleman sitting outside of her cousin’s apartment when the cat came outside and approached her.

Authorities found Coleman at a bus terminal, with her clothes and a Swiss knife covered in blood.

A Cook County Judge set Coleman’s bail at $75,000.

Indiana hero, Michael Upchurch, rescued a six-week-old puppy on Wednesday, February 13th, while doing his job as a garbage man.

According to MSN, Upchurch found the dog starving and crying in the garbage where his original owner allegedly placed him.

“Once I took it up here and I dumped it in the truck it was just a terrible sound,” Upchurch told reporters.

Upchurch named the dog “Garby,” and is now the pup’s caretaker.

(iWIDK By Alex Dorian) – Social media users were appalled by an inhuman act.

Caisen Green, an 18-year-old high school student from Cherokee County, OK, was put under investigation after he posted a picture of a pit bull he had killed with a bow and arrow.

According to The Muskogee Phoenix, after bragging about the kill on Facebook, Green began receiving death threats from locals, which prompted him and his mother to leave the county.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Undersheriff Jason Chennault, claimed that the legality of the animal’s death is under question, as it is uncertain if the dog threatened Green or “any present livestock.”

Nevertheless, the Cherokee County Humane Society, as well as half of Facebook, would like to see the District Attorney’s Office prosecute Green for such a heartless act of violence.
