IU Health Goshen fired eight nurses refused flu shot due to religion

Eight nurses were fired at a northern Indiana hospital because they refused to get flu shots under a new policy intended to protect patients from the potentially deadly illness.

According to Fox News,  the IU Health Goshen Hospital officials told its staff in September that flu shots would no longer be optional for staff, affiliated physicians, volunteers and vendors.

The hospital’s spokeswomen Melanie McDonald detailed, “Beginning this year, all IU Health colleagues, affiliated physicians, volunteers, vendors, were all required to receive the flu vaccine, or they could apply for a medical or religious exemption, and that application would be reviewed.”

The hospital did allow exemptions for medical and religious reasons and some of the fired employees submitted applications.
