(iWIDK By Paul Micele) – Why did the turtle cross the road? I guess now we’ll never find out.

Clemson University student, Nathan Weaver, 22, was studying how turtles can safely cross busy roads, but was surprised to discover the shocking amount of drivers that purposely run over the helpless creatures.

According to Huffington Post, “Weaver placed rubber turtles in the middle of a busy street near the Clemson campus in South Carolina and watched as seven out of 267 cars purposely crushed the fake turtles in the space of an hour.”

A similar experiment was previously conducted by a NASA employee, which also resulted in some drivers purposely running over the creatures in the road.

To all you turtles out there, looks like it’s time to invest in a titanium shell.
