thief beat up by owner of bike he stole

In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Calvin McDougal performed a rough “citizen’s arrest” on homeless man Keith Kirk after Kirk attempted to steal McDougal’s bicycle outside a One Stop Food Mart, which resulted in Kirk sustaining two black eyes and several cuts that required stitches.

According to Daily Mail, McDougal chased after Kirk when he realized the bike was not parked where he left it, and a fight ensued when the two came face to face.

During his trial, Kirk complained that McDougal should also face charges for assault for beating him so badly.

Broward County Judge John ‘Jay’ Hurley responded, “‘I believe there was a little bit more than just a tackle… you allegedly steal someone’s bike and it looks like there was some street justice carried out.’”

Florida law states that a citizen’s arrest can be made if there is reasonable suspicion that a felony has been committed as long as excessive force is not used.

He stole something that wasnt his… Yeah he got jacked up, but, if he had kept his hands off stuff that didnt belong to him he wouldnt be injured, would he? Cause and effect at its finest.
