(iWIDK by Danny Fisher) – More than 100 people in the WIDKsphere so far expressed support for a new political movement. Neither Democrat nor Republican. Both liberal and conservative.

The Progressive Conservative Movement advocates the following principles:
1. Fiscal conservatism: Advancing/restoring free market principles, with reduced regulations that stifle commerce and job creation. Tax rates and policies for businesses that are globally competitive. Reduce the national debt and balance the budget. Reform all entitlement programs to make them sustainable and affordable.
2. Social liberalism: pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro stem-cell research.
3. Drug policy: Decriminalize marijuana.
4. Immigration: Secure our borders to stop further illegal immigration. At the same time, grant amnesty and create a path to citizenship for those already here.
5. Foreign policy: American exceptionalism and values. Maintain strongest military in the world. Support our allies and friends. Caution our enemies. No nuclear Iran.
6. Energy: Promote energy independence by increasing production of traditional sources and granting more permits for oil, gas and coal. Develop renewable energy by encouraging innovation from the private sector.
7. Federalism: Strong central government – but with limitations. More authority to the states, as our founders had envisioned. Observe and respect the constitution.

Others have said it before. It’s not a new movement, you’re just a Libertarian. Abortion is a point of contention for libertarians. Some are as you indicated, pro-choice, favoring the personal freedoms of the mother, while others are pro-life favoring the baby’s freedom to live. I am a Libertarian, have been for many years and share all of your views listed here, except for my abortion rights example. No party could ever require 100% agreement on everything though.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Libertarianism!
Hi EggSauce Ted,
Thanks for your comments. My knowledge of Libertarianism is that it does not fit in with my #5: [Foreign policy: American exceptionalism and values. Maintain strongest military in the world. Support our allies and friends. Caution our enemies. No nuclear Iran.] My Libertarian friends would also probably disagree with me on #4: [Immigration: Secure our borders to stop further illegal immigration. At the same time, grant amnesty and create a path to citizenship for those already here.] As a Libertarian, how do you feel on those two areas?
Best,
Danny
I actually agree with you 100% on both of those issues. #5 there are Ron Paul types that want a more isolationist gov’t, and I while I do agree we stick our noses where it does not belong sometimes, I think that along with being the most powerful nation in the world comes certain responsibilities. #4 on the other hand certainly is a libertarian policy. Secure borders, and a more powerful national security were both key Ron Paul policies and are shared by the majority as well. Basically Libertarianism in my view is the belief that federal gov’t is for infrastructure and national security and not much else. The rest is all about personal freedoms and along with that is the freedom to choose for yourself all the things that fall into that category. Even things like public safety laws are better left to local and state gov’t so people can choose to live in locations that share their views.
Hope this helps a little. Just remember, don’t put all libertarians into the same box. Since we like freedom we don’t fall in line quite as easily as the Republicrats.
We can’t affford a three party system. It would ensure that the demoRATS never lose again. Anyone that believes in the fiscal tenants you have listed and voted for obama should be ashamed of themselves. Obama is going to ruin this country.
