(iWIDK by Cameron Guignet)29-year-old mother, Susan Mortensen, has been forced to serve fifty hours of community service or pay a $2,500 fine for allowing her 4-year-old daughter to draw on rocks with sidewalk chalk.

Mother Fined $2,500 For letting her 4-year-old daughter draw on rocks with chalk

The police, as reported by the Huffington Poststated that there has been a problem with people painting on those rocks, and they have been trying to crack down on perpetrators.

In court, the officer who ticketed her, reported that Mortensen, “responded with an attitude and curse words,” an accusation that Mortensen refused to comment on.

Also, the court records show that the same officer arrested Mortensen previously for painting the same rocks.

Protesters lined up outside the police station and the courthouse armed with sidewalk chalk in support of Mortensen. Although Mortensen accepted her punishment as fair, the supporters were still infuriated that sidewalk chalk is considered graffiti. One protester stated, “When you spray something, it’s pretty much there. But when you chalk something, it rains, it’s gone.”
